RESUMO

Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a commonly seen digestive system disease with unclear pathogenesis. The condition is complex and variable, often chronic, and has a long treatment period with no specific cure. Currently, the treatment of UC often involves the use of corticosteroids, aminosalicylates, and biologics in western medicine, which provide fast-acting and definite efficacy in the short term. However, with prolonged medication, some patients may develop drug resistance and worsening of the disease, leading to the occurrence of colon cancer. Research has found that oxidative stress is one of the important pathogenic factors in UC and influences its onset and development. Oxidative stress is a state of imbalance between oxidative products and the antioxidant system in the body, characterized by overexpression of oxidative products such as malondialdehyde (MDA), reactive oxygen species (ROS), nitric oxide (NO), or deficiency of antioxidant enzymes such as superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), and glutathione (GSH). It is worth noting that traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), as a unique characteristic medicine of China, has achieved significant efficacy in the treatment of UC. Studies have shown that TCM effectively inhibits the occurrence of UC by suppressing the accumulation of metabolites and antagonizes the development of UC by enhancing the antioxidant system. Therefore, using TCM to regulate the oxidative balance as a diagnostic and therapeutic approach may be a new method and direction for the treatment of UC in the future. Based on the above research, this article summarized the mechanisms of key pathogenic proteins in oxidative stress and the occurrence and development of UC, and compiled the effective ingredients of Chinese medicine, single drugs, prescriptions, and acupuncture and moxibustion in regulating upstream and downstream target proteins of oxidative stress. These interventions can reduce pathological damage to the intestinal mucosa, lower the colon injury index, enrich the intestinal microbiota, increase colon length, and improve clinical symptoms of UC. The article is expected to expand the application of TCM in the treatment of UC and provide a reliable scientific theoretical basis.

RESUMO

So far, liver cancer is still a highly malignant tumor with a high incidence rate in China, and it seriously affects the life and health of Chinese people. Previous studies have shown that the development of liver cancer is associated with various factors such as virus, smoking, drinking, and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. With continuous exploration, more and more studies have pointed out that nutritional factors and living environment are associated with the development and progression of liver cancer. Folic acid is a necessary nutrient for cell growth and reproduction, and its level in human body has an impact on the growth of tumor cells and is closely associated with liver cancer. This article reviews the research advances in the association between folic acid and liver cancer in recent years, so as to provide new reference and basis for the prevention and treatment of liver cancer.

RESUMO

Hepatocellular carcinoma is one of the common causes of tumor-related death, and it has high morbidity and mortality rates in China. Recent studies have shown that platelets are closely associated with the development of hepatocellular carcinoma. Literature review shows that platelets not only participate in hemostasis, but also act on liver cells and tumor microenvironment, promote the formation of new blood vessels, and participate in the development and progression of hepatocellular carcinoma as a cell mediator through immune response and other pathways. In addition, platelets and their derivatives can be used as potential therapeutic targets for hepatocellular carcinoma. Therefore, antiplatelet therapy is expected to become a new adjuvant strategy for the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma, which has important clinical significance.

RESUMO

T helper 17 (Th17) and regulatory T cells (Tregs) are two distinct subsets of T cells that play a key role in the development of autoimmunity and inflammation. Th17 cells are thought to be the key effector T cells that induce inflammatory responses while Tregs inhibit the development of inflammation by regulating effector T cell activity to maintain peripheral immune tolerance. Th17/Treg imbalance can lead to the development of autoimmune diseases. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are small endogenous non-coding RNA molecules in eukaryotes that play important regulatory roles in the maintenance of homeostasis in the immune system and the development of autoimmune diseases. Abnormal expression of miRNA will result in a broken or dysfunctional balance of differentiation between Th cell subsets, leading to inflammation or autoimmune diseases. This article provides an overview of the research advances in miRNA regulation of Th17/Treg balance to explore the role and clinical significance of miRNAs in Th17/Treg balance and maintenance of immune system balance.

RESUMO

Objective@#To analyze the correlation between circumcision and incidence and clearance of male genital HPV infection.@*Methods@#From May to July 2014, 18-55 year old men who had sexual behavior history were recruited from the general population in Liuzhou, Guangxi to set up a cohort. Totally, 113 circumcised and 560 uncircumcised men were enrolled and interviewed using a questionnaire (including information on demographic characteristics and sexual behaviors), then they were followed-up with 6-month interval for 2 times. On each visit, specimens of male external genitalia were collected and genotyped for HPV DNA. The differences of incidence and clearance of genital HPV infections between circumcised and uncircumcised men were analyzed by Log-rank test. Cox regression was used to analyze the relationship between circumcision and incidence and clearance of HPV infection.@*Results@#The median age (P25, P75) of circumcised and uncircumcised men were 28 (24, 35) and 32 (24, 31), respectively. The incidences of any HPV infections were 9.1 (95%CI: 2.4-15.7) and 8.4 (95% CI: 5.6-11.2) per 1 000 person-months (χ2=0.10, P=0.758), respectively. The clearance of circumcised men [136.3 (95%CI: 70.0-202.7) per 1 000 person-months] was higher than that in uncircumcised men [89.6 (95%CI: 65.9-113.3) per 1 000 person-months] (χ2=8.19, P=0.004). In multivariate COX regression analysis, compared with uncircumcised men, circumcised men had higher possibility to clear any HPV infections (HR: 2.41, 95%CI: 1.30-4.46). Compared with men having one sexual partner, people having more than 4 sexual partners had lower possibility to clear any HPV infections (HR: 0.49, 95%CI: 0.25-0.96). Compared with 18-25 years old men, men aged 26-35 years old had higher possibility to clear high-risk HPV infections (HR: 2.14, 95%CI: 1.08-4.23).@*Conclusion@#Circumcised and uncircumcised men had similar incidence of genital HPV infection, whereas, men conducted circumcision and having fewer sexual partners could increase the clearance of genital HPV infections.

RESUMO

To describe the effects of endogenous testosterone levels on the visuospatial ability.Thevisuospatial ability, testosteronewere included as the key words, retrieving 46 papers in the database.35 relevant papers have been reviewed in the paper,as the results,we have found that the visuospatial ability of male was better than female. The performances of the visuospatial tasks in males were associated with the lev-els of endogenous testosterone, and the effects comprised two aspects:the organizational function and activa-tional function of the testosterone. The latter have received more attention from researchers.Until now, most studies of activational effects of testosterone on visuospatial ability remained on the level of behavioral re-search.The mental rotation task, navigation task and virtual reality scenes tasks were implied in these stud-ies.A nonlinear relationship has aroused a great controversy.Latest research suggests that further investiga-tion of the neural mechanisms related to visual-spatial ability is needed, using ERP and MRI techniques,to assess the relationship of endogenous testosterone levels with the relevant neural basis of visuospatial ability.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: This study aims to investigate Saccharomyces boulardii CNCM I-745 during Helicobacter pylori eradication in children. METHODS: One hundred ninety-four H. pylori positive children were randomized in two groups. Therapy (omeprazole+clarithromycin+amoxicillin or omeprazole+clarithromycin+metronidazole in case of penicillin allergy) was given to both groups during two weeks. In the treatment group (n: 102) S. boulardii was added to the triple therapy, while the control group (n: 92) only received triple therapy. The incidence, onset, duration and severity of diarrhea and compliance to the eradication treatment were compared. A 13C urea breath test was done 4 weeks after the end of eradication therapy in two groups of 21 patients aged 12 years and older to test the H. pylori eradication rate. RESULTS: In the treatment group, diarrhea occurred in 12 cases (11.76%), starting after 6.25+/-1.24 days, lasting 3.17+/-1.08 days, and compliance to eradication treatment was 100%. In the control group, diarrhea occurred in 26 cases (28.26%), starting after 4.05+/-1.11 days, lasting 4.02+/-0.87 days, and in six cases eradication treatment was stopped prematurely (p<0.05). The 13C urea breath test showed successful H. pylori eradication in 71.4% of the patients in the treatment and in 61.9 % in the control group (not significant). CONCLUSION: S. boulardii has a beneficial effect on the prevention and treatment of diarrhea during H. pylori eradication in children. Although S. boulardii did only slightly increase H. pylori eradication rate, compliance to eradication treatment was improved.

RESUMO

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To explore an innovative technique that is aided by multi-disciplinary hybrid approach in identification and treatment of tracheoesophageal fistula (TEF) in children intraoperatively.</p><p><b>METHOD</b>From April 2008 to October 2011, 4 patients with isolated TEF were presented with 2 H-type fistulas and 2 recurrent TEF. For all the four cases, with the cooperation of the gastroenterologists, respiratory physician and surgeon, methylene blue was first injected into the trachea for detecting the dye in the esophagus by the gastroscopy. Bronchoscopy was performed where the fistula tract was shown by the methylene blue and a guide wire was passed through the fistula. The patients underwent rigid gastroscopy and the guide wire was identified and brought out through the mouth by biopsy pliers. This created a wire loop through the fistula. X-ray was then used to identify the level of the fistula. According to the level of the fistula it was determined whether surgical incision and approach should be used. The fistula was then repaired successfully by surgery.</p><p><b>RESULT</b>In the 4 patients, with the aid of gastroscopy and bronchoscopy, identification of the fistula intraoperatively was then facilitated by traction on the loop. The fistula was identified and repaired. There were no fistula recurrences.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>Multi-disciplinary hybrid therapy for tracheoesophageal fistula in children is beneficial for the precise localization of the fistula. This new technique is an effective and definitive method in identification and treatment of TEF in children.</p>
